ORLANDO, Fla. Nike Roshe One NM Breeze Running Shoes Black/White/Persian Viole . -- The Orlando Magic came into Wednesday night playing dangerously poor basketball. For the losers of four straight games, injuries were mounting and morale was falling daily. Thankfully for the Magic, they got a visit from a Washington Wizards team that was struggling even more and hadnt won in Amway Center for a long time. Minus a few late scares, Orlando found the remedy it was looking for in the form of a 109-103 victory. Ryan Anderson scored 23 points, including six three-pointers, to help the Magic end their skid and earn their eighth straight win over the Wizards, which dropped to just 1-9 on the road. Dwight Howard and J.J. Redick added 21 points each in the Magics first 100-point game since a win at Indiana on Jan. 24. Orlando had 13 threes as a team. As good as it felt to win Anderson said afterward that no one in the Magic locker room feels like they are completely out of their funk. "I think we need to look to the next game and bring the same effort and energy," he said. "We didnt want to focus too much on that streak because thats a week wed all like to forget. Those games wed all like to forget about and we can move forward and get a win next game and just start a little run. "This started our confidence, but we need to follow through with it." Magic coach Stan Van Gundy has harped on taking care of the ball and limiting mistakes in the half-court offence. After struggling with turnovers throughout their recent skid, the Magic settled down after a rocky first half to commit just four in the final 24 minutes, while moving the ball wall in their sets to get Anderson and others open looks at the basket. The night went so well that Howard, who also had his 17th double-double of the season with 18 rebounds, even was productive at the free-throw line going 11 for 16. There were still some moments that reeked of the streak, like first-half turnovers that resulted from the Magic struggling to get the ball up the floor. Those fundamental things are what coach Stan Van Gundy said is where his focus remains to put his team back on track. "Its frustrating to me as a coach because I cant figure out what were doing wrong," Van Gundy said. "That hard thing tonight was we couldnt run anything. We couldnt get into our offence with their pressure. "I thought our composure was fine, were just struggling to take care of the ball." Nick Young had 24 points and Rashard Lewis added 20 for Washington. The Wizards dropped to 1-9 on the road and still havent beaten a .500 team on the road the past two seasons. The Wizards trailed by just a point entering the fourth quarter and stayed close before the Magic took an 87-77 lead with 5:56 to play on a one-handed dunk by Howard in the post over JaVale McGee. Howard ran down the court after the play and pointed toward Quentin Richardson before the two bumped chests. It was a rare moment of celebration or levity for a team that had so very few of them during its skid. "He really uplifts everybody," Anderson said. "When that exciting play happens, everybody kind of looks to Dwight to see where his reaction is. When hes excited and hes motivated, hes the one that we call kind of look to." Washington, which had 12 3-pointers of its own, got to 104-100 with 34.8 to play, but the Magic were able to close it out at the free-throw line. After coasting through the opening minutes during most of its recent losing skid, Orlando picked up its offence in the first half Wednesday and led by four at the break. But many of its recent headaches in its half-court offence persisted early on. The Magic were up 11 points at one point. They also committed 11 turnovers, though, often leading to layups on the other end for the Wizards. Washington used a 16-5 spurt to begin the second quarter to take a 36-30 lead before a 14-2 run by Orlando, which included three straight three-pointers, nudged the Magic back in front. "I told our guys we cant stop playing as hard as we do," Wizards coach Randy Witmann said. "Weve got nine guys under rookie contracts. Right now theyre not getting the respect. Thatll come." Veteran Rashard Lewis said there has been a definite mentality change since Wittman took over five games ago following Flip Saunders firing. "At the beginning of the season wed always hang our heads," Lewis said. "...But recently we keep playing hard even when teams make runs. We dont give up until the end of the game...We have to take baby steps and take it one day at a time." Howard said the past is the past for the Magic now. "It happens to everybody in the league and we just have to continue to remind ourselves that were a good team and were going to have rough patches. We just have to stay together and remember we cant allow anything to separate us." NOTES: The Magic waived G Larry Hughes after the game. Hughes appeared in nine games. His contract would have been guaranteed for the rest of the season on Feb. 10. Orlandos roster now stands at 14 players. ...Howard was whistled for his sixth technical of the year in the third quarter. ... Washington has lost 48 of its last 52 games on the road. ... Magic PG Jameer Nelson missed his third straight game with concussion-like symptoms and SG Jason Richardson was out his second consecutive game resting a bruised left knee. Logano used a savvy move to get around three dueling former champions in the final laps Saturday night at Richmond International Raceway, and the classic short-track ending caused tempers to flare in a big way in the garage afterward. The biggest skirmish had Marcos Ambrose, who finished 18th, confronting Casey Mears, who was 19th. Mears first pushed Ambrose out of the way, and Ambrose retaliated with a thundering punch in the face that appeared to draw blood. It was unclear what caused the two to confront each other, but NASCAR vice-president of competition Robin Pemberton said the governing body would review the matter. Logano, meanwhile, needed 26 races and two trips to Richmond before putting himself in NASCARs playoff last season. There will be no such nail-biting this year, and it took just one Richmond race to make it so. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver took advantage of the late-race duel to grab the lead and then outran former champions Matt Kenseth, Jeff Gordon and Brad Keselowski. Loganos second victory essentially assured him a spot in the 10-race Chase for the championship, which he only achieved on his last chance a year ago. Loganos first career victory on the 0.75-mile oval came when Gordon, Kenseth and Keselowski raced in a triangle jockeying for position, and Logano went underneath all three and held off Gordon for his fifth career Sprint Cup victory. "Im more surprised than anyone else here," Logano said. "This is one of my worst tracks. ... What a crazy finish." It got crazier afterward, with Keselowski vowing to remember how Kenseth blocked him from a chance at winning. "I had a shot at winning the race and felt like he ran me off the track," said Keselowski, who was fifth on the final restart, but had the fastest car on short runs all night. "You race to win and he definitely was racing to win, but you hope when somebody races to win that they at least win the race if theyre going to wreck you or run you off the race track. "It was just a mind-boggling move to me, but I made sure I got him back and made sure my teammate could win the race. ... I thought it was uncalled for. ... Just got to put that in the bank and remember it," Keselowski said. Gordon said Kenseth was just doing what he needed to do to try and hang on. "II think Matt did what he thought he had to do to win," Gordon said. Mens-Asics Gel Lyte V 5 Off White-Purple Shoes SZ. "He started making his car real wide. He probably didnt make the guys behind him real happy." Kenseth had come from nowhere after lurking in the back of the top 10 all race long, suddenly charging through the field and passing Gordon to grab the lead with 38 laps to go. It was his first lead. "I was trying to win the race. I think thats what all five of us were trying to do," Kenseth said. Logano, meanwhile, looks forward to the next 15 races knowing hes already got a spot in the playoffs. "At this point, we really have nothing to lose," Logano said of the remaining 15 races before the Chase field is set. "Its all about going for wins and having fun out there and making sure were ready for when the Chase starts." Gordon said the three-way battle helped create the opening for Logano. "I was really just trying to battle with those guys to get the best finish that we could," Gordon said. "(Logano) was in a great position while we were all sitting there sliding around battling it out. To come home second is still a great finish." Kyle Busch, never in contention, rose to finish third, followed by Keselowski and Kenseth. "That last restart was intense. ... I just drove by everybody," Busch said. Gordon, who led 173 laps, and teammate Earnhardt both seemed poised to challenge at the end, but after the final restart, Team Penske teammates Logano and Keselowski became the ones to watch. Their cars had easily been the fastest on fresh rubber all night, so much so that Gordon said, "I just had to let the 2 and the 22 go right by me because they were so fast" on fresh tires. Signs of the wild ending may have come very early. Clint Bowyer started third and hoped a return to one of his best tracks would allow him to put last September behind him. That was when Bowyers intentional spin late in the last race before the playoffs jumbled the finishing order, and the drivers who made the Chase, leading to a NASCAR investigation. Instead of a clean run, Bowyer hit rookie pole-sitter Kyle Larson on the opening lap, sending Larson spinning. He also twice pitted under a green flag, right before a caution flag came out, and was battling Danica Patrick for 38th place when a fire in his engine ultimately caused him to park for the night.
